ECOWAS Customs Code
The Code covers a broad range of customs-related matters, including customs procedures, the declaration and clearance of goods, customs valuation, tariff classification, rules governing importation and exportation, customs controls, transit operations, warehousing, temporary admission, and enforcement measures. By harmonising these provisions, the Customs Code helps reduce administrative barriers and supports the efficient movement of goods throughout the region.
As a key instrument of regional integration, the ECOWAS Customs Code complements other regional trade frameworks, including the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET), the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS), and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Together, these instruments contribute to facilitating intra-regional trade, strengthening customs cooperation, and enhancing the competitiveness of West African economies.
