Commissioning and Handing over of the AfCFTA Secretariat in Accra- Ghana.

The government and people of Ghana have, on 17th August 2020, commissioned and handed over a fully furnished building to the African Union to be used as the Permanent Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA). In addition, a furnished residential accommodation, to be used as the official residence of the AfCFTA Secretary-General, was also handed over to the African Union.

It will be recalled that at the 12th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government held in 2019, in Niamey-Niger, Ghana was elected by peers to host the AfCFTA Secretariat and has offered to host it in the Capital City of Ghana, Accra.

The President of Ghana, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, Commissioned and handed over the secretariat on behalf of the Ghanaian people. He was joined by several dignitaries including the African Union Commission Chairperson of the AU, H.E Mousa Faki Mahamat; Representative of the African Union Chairperson; The Secretary -General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, H.E Wamkele Keabetswe Mene and the Chair Person of ECOWAS and Champion of the AfCFTA, H.E Muhamadou Issoufou.
